School and such and things

I'm back to school this month, at University of Washington. Studying Education and minoring in American Sign Language. I came down with a nasty cold the day before classes started so today was my first day on campus for the Autumn quarter. I took a single class this summer, but now I am full time, so my days are going to be Very Full. I am also doing independent study, assisting my friend and mentor Michael Cooper at NSC with curriculum and tech stuff as I did last year. Looking forward to meeting the new recruits this quarter. :D

Migraine is still a thing, though meds have continued to help more than in previous years. Hence the ability to go back to school. I have accommodations in place with UW to make sure I have the support I need for when my little migraine monster rears its head. I am constantly impressed with the ways schools (in my area anyway) are more sensitive to individual needs. I am grateful for the compassionate ways they meet students where they are at.

Took some photos at Mary Gates Hall this morning--gorgeous space. I am sad my photo came out blurry, taken of the best response to a "what future career do you want?" question ever: "Paleontologist cuz dinosaur". LOL

This year I have the pleasure of biking past Christine Sun Kim's Ghost(ed) Notes art installation at the Henry Museum on campus (image below) every day on the way to my bike hut location. CSK is a Deaf artist I have admired for years, and seeing her work as I bike to and from my ASL class this morning was heart-lifting.

The world is very confusing and angering a lot of the time these days. But the last image is one of hope. A neighbor has been posting random affirmations to light poles for the past year plus, a lot of them sharing much for queer and trans kids. I take photos every time I see them and keep a little album to remind me of the power of random acts of kindness. Whoever this person is, I love them.

Hope you are doing well. Fight fascism, friends!
