Long Day…with Doggos!
Today was a loooooong day.
Woke up early to get the dogs up and out to grooming appointments. Loving having a grooming place a couple blocks away now, so it was a nice morning walk at least.
Back home, quickly steeped my tea for the road, then head to campus. Class was easy since we mostly watched a movie (No Ordinay Hearo aka Superdeafy, which I hadn’t gotten around to watching, and loved! It’s on Prime.) Then after class a student completely gushed at me and Michael for a while about how much she loves the class, about my welcoming energy and support, and his awesome teaching. We both felt so uplifted by their enthusiasm and effusive praise. I’m still feeling light-hearted thinking of their kind words, and seeing how much it touched my friend and teacher to receive such kindness from a student today. I know and feel deeply how important these moments are to keeping educators motivated, and it came at a great time.
Headed to a “finals prep” day…meaning THERAPY DOGS! The Asian and Pacific Islander group hosted a therapy dog afternoon, with 5 or 6 doggos you could just go around and pet, talk to the owners, and relax. It was adorable. The woman who runs the therapy dog org had rainbow hair and sparkly mushroom earrings. She was perfectly herself, and clearly loves what she does. Every volunteer involved shared similar sentiments—they wish they could do this more often, because it brings them such joy to share their dogs’ positive energy with people around the area, from nursing homes to corporate entities, to schools like today.
This helped me pleasantly pass some time I needed to pass before a student affinity group/club orientation I needed to attend to help the ASL Club get on track for the year. I got to connect with the director, who I always love seeing, and met an extraordinary young man who is starting the basketball club up this year. We talked about the value of community college as a stepping stone to 4 year, and his goals to go to UW after this. And it just so happened he was in ASL club at his high school, and took ASL with Michael last year! He spoke so glowingly and eloquently of his experience at North, I told him they needed to put a camera on him and make him a spokesperson for the college. Ain’t even joking!
Home and crashed hard into bed for a few hours. Now cooking dinner and watching The Holiday, one of my fave rom-coms.
